Description
Soft, fluffy dough balls filled with gooey Nutella, baked to golden perfection and dusted with icing sugar for an irresistible treat.
Ingredients
- For the dough:
- 1.8 tsp dry yeast (instant yeast works finea)
- 2 cups flour
- 1/4 cup caster sugar
- 3/4 cup milk (warmed slightly)
- 1 egg (room temperature)
- 3 tbsp softened butter
- For the filling:
- Nutella spread (or any hazelnut chocolate spread)
- For assembly and topping:
- icing sugar for dusting
- 1 tbsp milk
- 1 egg yolk
Instructions
1. In a large bowl, combine flour, yeast, sugar, and egg. Gradually add warm milk and mix into a shaggy dough.
2. Add softened butter and knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
3. Cover and let the dough rise in a warm place for about 2 hours, or until doubled in size.
4. Meanwhile, spoon Nutella onto a parchment-lined tray and freeze for at least 1 hour.
5. Lightly flour a surface and roll out the dough to about 1 inch thickness.
6. Cut into circles using a cutter or glass.
7. Place a frozen Nutella portion in the center of each circle, then seal tightly into balls.
8. Arrange on a baking tray, leaving space between each.
9. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
10. Mix egg yolk and milk, then brush over each dough ball.
11. Bake for about 20 minutes until golden brown and puffed.
12. Cool slightly, then dust with icing sugar and serve warm.
Notes
Freezing the Nutella makes filling much easier and prevents leaking.
Ensure the dough is sealed היט to avoid spills during baking.
Best enjoyed warm for a gooey center.
You can substitute Nutella with other chocolate or nut spreads.
